What made a Chinese high schooler stow away to Dubai?

The narrative of a Chinese adolescent who stowed away on a plane to Dubai, purportedly planning to profit there as hobo, has started a discussion in China about deception.

The stowaway was recognized by Chinese media as a 16-year-old kid from Sichuan named Xu. He was found on 27 May, stowing away in the payload hold of flight EK303 from Shanghai.

The authority Xinhua news office and the Chengdu Economic Daily reported the kid had said he did it since he had heard poor people in Dubai could make 470,000 yuan ($71,275; £49,300) a month.

Recently, there was a story being shared generally on the Twitter-like Sina Weibo with the hashtag #DubaiBeggarsMake470000YuanMonthly.

The China Daily report said non-United Arab Emirates residents were making a fortune asking, some making 270,000 dirhams (that is the place the 470,000 yuan figure originates from).

At the time, individuals online were stating they were "readied to go asking in Dubai" and some posts indicated flight tickets with the subtitle "Don't stop me going".
